Aloha Oe這首舉世聞名的夏威夷民謠，為十九世紀末夏威夷最後一任女王莉莉．烏歐卡拉尼（Queen Lili uokakani）還是公主時，於1878年所作，莉莉．烏歐卡拉尼平時喜愛音樂，並且擅長作曲。有一天，她看到一對戀人離別前的深情擁抱，那情景激發她的思緒，而完成了這首動聽的離別歌曲。另外一個說法是，自從葡萄牙商船將吉他這種樂器傳入夏威夷後，受到當地人的喜愛。1872年時，有一艘德國商船來到夏威夷，船長亨利柏傑曾經是一位軍樂隊指揮，當時莉莉．烏歐卡拉尼的父親，夏威夷國王卡米克哈五世，邀請亨利柏傑留下來居住，因此亨利柏傑（Henry Berger）就結合西方歌曲的曲調與夏威夷當地之風情做了數十首情歌，Aloha Oe即是其中一首。後來，亨利柏傑離開了夏威夷，不久後，卡米克哈五世去世了，莉莉．烏歐卡拉尼繼任為女王，但因與美國在領土上的衝突，被美國關入監獄，在監獄中時，將這首Aloha Oe做了一些修改，因而後來當地人認為這首歌是莉莉．烏歐卡拉尼女王所作。
Aloha Oe不只旋律優美，歌詞亦相當動人，扣人心弦，與蘇格蘭民謠Auld Lang Syne（驪歌）已成為世界上流傳最廣的二首離別歌曲。Aloha Oe的歌詞有夏威夷語與英文的歌詞，分別為：

中文譯詞的意境比較偏重在一般好友的離情，不似原歌詞是意指戀人的離別，所以這首歌因而在團康活動中被使用得最多，卻相當貼切。狄斯耐卡通電影「星際寶貝」亦將此曲作為電影插曲，劇中情境感人。
